One of our core philosophies is that every child has a talent for creative expression. That child may just need the confidence to bring that out.”-Suzanne Spano
Star Kidz Director/Co-Owner
Over the course of the last year, Star Kidz has been had the privilege of being involved in many opportunities to give back. In November 2010, we participated in “Letters for Lily,” a fundraiser which honored and perpetuated the memory of Lily Hannah Taubin, a student at the early Childhood Center of the Jewish Community Center of Harrison (JCCH), who died as the result of a brain tumor. We provided karaoke entertainment for the attendees at the event, which was held at Life the Place to Be in Ardsley.
In December 2010, we participated in an evening of fun at the Blythedale Children’s Hospital. A number of our advanced students performed song selections and then the patients got a chance to try singing along with the karaoke machine.
In April, Star Kidz participated in the Hope for Children Carnival at the Resurrection Church in Rye. Proceeds from the Carnival went to support the Global Medical Relief Fund, which aids children who are missing or have lost the use of limbs or eyes, have been severely burned, or have been injured due to war, natural disaster or illness.
In all cases, Star Kidz brought their karaoke system and provided attendees with the opportunity to sing their favorite songs. The music provided a great backdrop for the day’s activities.
During our spring 2011 session of Star Kidz, we incorporated a theme into our final performances. The theme centered around “giving back.” Our kids danced to Waka, Waka, the theme from the World Cup in Africa and sang “Circle of Life.” In addition, we raised over $2,000 for Under the Acacia, an organization that works with remote communities in Kenya to assist with community development and provides education through the Loita Hills Academy.
